A little off-the-beaten bath, but definitely worth the side trip, Michael Shaps Wineworks is the quiet and rustic site of Shaps' original tasting room where all of their Virginia wines are actually made. The tasting here includes selections from the Wineworks Virginia Wines as well as the Maison Michael Shaps French wines. The indoor tasting room is comfortable and well managed by a friendly and knowledgeable staff. There are outdoor seating areas to sit and enjoy a glass of wine in a quiet setting.

One of the top wineries in Virginia and a multiple Virginia Governor's Cup winner, Michael Shaps Wineworks produces, among its fine wines, the crisp Odette blend and a peachy Viognier. The sublime Petit Manseng features crisp oak, spice, granite, and violet. The unique Cabernet Franc is lean, smoky, peppery, and a little tart on the finish. The unique L. Scott is a blend of Tannat, Merlot and Malbec, and the Raisin d'Etre Red blend is totally decadent when paired with chocolate. The Maison Michael Shaps wines produced at Shaps' winery in Meursault that are available for tasting here include the elegant Mercurey Blanc blend of Burgundy and Claret, the sparking Cremant de Bourgogne Rose and the Pinot Noir Gevrey Chambertin.

Michael Shaps Wineworks offers a wine club and private tastings as well as an additional tasting room, Wineworks Extended, conveniently located in Charlottesville.
