James River Cellars Winery is a family-owned and operated winery with a tasting room minutes from downtown Richmond. Part of the Colonial Virginia Wine Trail, this Virginia Governors Cup winner produces among its whites an oaky-buttery Reserve Chardonnay, a radiant stainless Chardonnay, an aromatic white pepper and honey Petit Manseng, a Vidal Blanc with a kiwi freshness, and a Chardonel. The reds include the bronze-medal winning Monitor vs. CSS Virginia named after the 'Battle of the Ironclads' that occurred in Hampton Roads during the Civil War. Other reds include the Rad Red and Hanover Red blends. The tasting also includes the Montpelier and Hanover White sweet white blends, a Chambourcin and a Colonial Red blend.

A favorite hangout for friends and families on weekends, James River Cellars Winery is homey, relaxed, pet-friendly and kid-friendly. The tasting room is small, but there are plenty of outdoor seating areas on the lawns and patios. The patios are equipped with heaters in chilly weather. There is live music on weekends as well as events and seasonal and holiday celebrations throughout the year. The banquet room and lawn and patio areas are available for rental for special events and private parties.
